Deep Space Course

My #1 Goal in the Deep Space Course is to save you time, money, and frustration.  The astrophotography journey can be a long, winding path with lots of obstacles along the way.  It helps to have a guide!  

I've spent over 1,000 hours in the past 5 years learning as much as I could about astrophotography. I even lived out of my car for 4 years, so I could spend as many nights as possible out under the stars in the backcountry. The end result of this is my Deep Space Course!

The Deep Space Course currently has over 90 videos, with more on the way!  We'll start off with the Polar Alignment process, since this is the foundation of astrophotography.  A polar alignment is actually quite simple, but it takes a while to wrap your mind around it.  In the DSC I'll teach you my special techniques for polar aligning in under 1 minute! 

Once you've got the hang of the polar alignment, we'll talk about balancing your counterweights, safely attaching your camera and lens, and how to actually find the nebulae and galaxies in the night sky.  My process is very simple, I'll show you some bright stars that can be used as pointers.  Then we'll use those stars to get lined up with the nebula or galaxy.  After a few nights of practice, you'll be in good shape.  

To be honest though, finding the objects is the most time consuming part of the night.  If you want to speed this process up, I'll show you how to use a Go-To Mount.  A Go-To mount can be controlled entirely from your smartphone / tablet.  For example, I can use my phone to select the Andromeda Galaxy, and the camera / telescope will immediately center it up in the frame.  This is a game changer!

Of course, we'll also do full processing tutorials for all 14 objects in the course.  I include my own TIFF and RAW files so you can follow along with me in the videos, step-by-step.  This is a great way to learn, even if you don't have your own images yet.  As you'll see in the Deep Space Course, processing is half the battle when it comes to astrophotography.
