Randall continues to share the gripping and haunting accounts from survivors of the 1871 firestorms in Peshtigo and Marinette, along the western shores of Green Bay, WI – to ensure that we don’t forget – because “That is the doom of Man…” Charles D. Robinson recalls: “Men, women and children, horses, oxen, cows, dogs, swine – everything that had life was seized with panic and ran without method to escape the impending destruction. The smoke was suffocating and blinding. The roar of the tempest deafening. The atmosphere scorching. Children were separated from their parents and trampled upon by the crazed beasts. Husbands and wives were calling wildly for each other and rushing in wild dismay, they knew not where…” Mixed with symbology, biblical quotes and imagery, we start to get a glimpse of the true potential cause… Kosmographia Ep080 The Randall Carlson Podcast with Brothers of the Serpent – Kyle and Russ, Normal Guy Mike, and GeocosmicREX admin Bradley, from 2/15/22.

  • I am very enthusiastic about the idea you guys might get out your roll-o-dex and find someone who knows what he's doing, and who wants to dig at Peshtigo. Proxies would advance the science pretty far, fast. I suggest a clam gun. If you think maybe, here? Take a sample. Think maybe, there? Take a sample. Try to avoid doing the Yukon Cornielius. Gold or not, that's mud.

  • Wonderful accumulation of historical facts & discussion. Individual current knowledge about California forest fires, devastating Iowa "derecho" (tsunami straight line, several hundred mile long, high speed windstorm front" is depiction of recent history. Add these two events together with super oxygen deprived heated but not burned pine oils/sticks/branches and needles, could immediately burst into flames as oxygen became available. The confluence of multiple conditions came together and over whelm our human experience and current knowledge. Glad I am learning stuff from you guys. Just knowing these rare things could happen any time give us all pause of how fragile out earthly existence really is. Safety may just be an illusion at every moment we live, not to be taken for granted, no matter how much we think we know.

  • For a few years living in the Sierra foothills, I got to know a professional firefighter. ... Okay, I was married to her, but that's not the story. She 'splained that some fires involve enough acreage they can begin to create their own local weather conditions. This comes from the water in the burning plants vaporizing and adding enough moisture to the smokey clouds to nudge the mass to some precipitation... AND lightning strokes. The Sap of some trees can be flammable, but the primary fuel seems to be the extremely dry DEAD WOOD --- some actual dead entire trees with intact trunks & limbs -- plus dried out fallen limbs, piled leaf litter, and dry dead shrubbery... Wood gas Stoves have been designed to take advantage of the flammable "gas" generated by heating small pieces of wood to about 450º... Pines typically release a bunch of Terpenes and deciduous trees typically release isoprenes. It seems possible that given the right conditions of hot dry weather, a forest could be primed to give off a mix of volatile gasses, that don't ALL immediately ignite, Some might be sucked into whirlwinds before the advancing front of flame. The RADIANT HEAT from the towering flames as they approach might heat the trees enough to generate more and more unburned flammable gas from the decomposing wood. Even if most quickly burned you could imagine vortices and rolling coils could carry huge volumes of mixed atmospheric air (free oxygen) and flammable wood gas. Enough to cause the seemingly supernatural drama playing out at the Leading Edge of the much larger firestorm consuming the landscape behind the advancing front. ‹ [ | | | | ] › Otherwise you have to posit some incoming comet made up of frozen volatile gasses that entering the atmosphere at 30 miles per second, suddenly become UNFROZEN, spitting and spewing along several hundred miles of the landscape like a thousand Titanic Blowtorches... ‹ [ | | | | ] › About a decade back, there were a bunch of Youtube videos circulating titled and captioned as "Strange Trumpet Sounds Coming from the SKY..." or similar phrases. Eschatological events seemed to be on the minds of many. The people recording these must have been hearing *something.* Each video slowly panned the afternoon sky, usually showing a sort of "Mackerel patterned" high altitude cloud layer. But I could never discern a sound remotely close to a trumpet or horn of any sort, and after a few of'em, I ignored the rest. YMMV, as the acronym goes. If it happened NOW, the audio quality of the smartphones is much better; might pick up something... "Dance now to the The Rockin' Music of the End Times!!" ‹ =ºÞ

  • I'm really enjoying your coverage of the Great Conflagrations of Chicago, Peshtigo, and other localities. Randal's telling of eye witness reports were so intriguing that I decided to do some researching of my own. I dug up "The Great Conflagration. Chicago: Its Past, Present, and Future.", and it begins with a report of an altogether separate fire breaking out on Saturday October 7th at about 10 o'clock. This fire was accompanied by a general "fierce wind" from the southwest and mostly burnt itself out through Sunday. What caught my eye was that on Sunday evening the fire bells were rang, but not for "any revival of the embers" of Saturdays fire. Most citizens seemed to ignore the alarms due to the visible bright lights from the southwest were at a "great distance". In general the beginnings of the Sunday fire seem, if anything, to have started approximately <.5 miles south of Saturday's fire. Are there any reports to be found of unusual phenomena further southwest of Chicago?
